i-diamants: a diamond know-how and a tradition of quality of the Antwerp diamond dealers.
Definition of a diamond cutter: he is a professional who shapes and cuts rough diamonds into cut diamonds (round brilliant, princess cut, heart, emerald ....), increasing their value, their purity and their brilliance. Cutting rough diamonds eliminates certain crystallization defects, inclusions, pits, icing, etc. To cut a diamond, the diamond cutter will follow the steps of a well-defined process: cutting, cleaving, cutting and polishing the diamond in order to obtain the greatest possible light reflection which will give the cut diamond its brilliance. These steps in the transformation of a rough diamond into a cut diamond are called: marking, sawing, cleaving, cutting, and finally faceting.
Marking
The diamond cutter carefully studies the diamond from all angles and draws a cutting line in India ink to give instructions for sawing and/or cleaving.
Cleavage
This technique, known for more than 2000 years, is used to split a diamond in two. After cutting a notch in the diamond, a steel blade is placed in this slot. The principle is to give a sharp blow with a mallet on the blade which is fixed at a very precise angle. The cleavage is done parallel to the crystallite grain. Diamond is a bit like wood, there is a direction in which it is easy to split (parallel to the wood grain) and in the other direction (perpendicular to the wood grain) where it is much more difficult to split.
Sawing
Sawing allows a diamond to be split in a non-cleavable crystallization plane. With the traditional method, the diamond is placed on a vertical blade rotating at high speed, which saws it very slowly. Nowadays, diamonds can be sawn very precisely by a laser beam. The sawing is done against the crystallite grain.
Scraping
Known since the Renaissance, rough cutting is the process by which the future rondiste (or girdle, the round part of the diamond) is created, by cutting the stone against another diamond. This phase consists of rounding the diamond's belt before it is cut into facets. This is the preliminary operation to the cut. It prepares a rough outline of the shape the diamond will have once cut.
Faceting
On a polishing wheel, each facet is cut on the stone, one by one. Generally, a brilliant is cut by different people: a cross cutter (who cuts the table, the 4 main facets of the crown and the breech), eventually by the 8/8 cutter and then finally by the brillanteur. When all the facets are cut, the diamond is ready to be set in a jewel.

A jeweler is a merchant who buys and sells branded or unbranded jewelry. His job is to buy and sell. His added value is to have the most suitable stock of jewelry and precious stones for the clientele of his neighborhood or city. For example, we distinguish between jewelry stores in shopping malls that specialize in mass consumption jewelry at affordable prices, and downtown jewelry stores that are often upscale, with less stock but more selective, more qualitative and more expensive. They have more precious stones (diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds) and less fine stones. Their jewelry is made of precious metals (18k gold or platinum) and less silver, gold-plated... Note also that jewelry stores are less and less independent, and more and more organized in the form of chains and brands.
A jeweler is a manufacturer and/or creator of jewelry. He does not buy/sell ready-made jewelry, but sells his own creations made in his workshop or workshops. The jeweler can be a craftsman (we speak then about craftsman jeweler) or a brand (we speak then about brand of jewelry) or a label (we speak then about creator jeweler). Jewelry brands have grown tremendously over the last few decades, but there has been a great increase in the appeal of artisanal jewelers and jewelry designers, with customers increasingly looking for a custom-made, even unique, piece of jewelry. The attraction for the work done by the hands of a goldsmith is coming back, with a clientele saturated with industrially manufactured collections, which we see everywhere, and whose qualities of realization and setting often leave something to be desired. The know-how of the goldsmith's trade is gradually regaining the place it deserves in the minds of customers.
i-diamants is associated with the best jeweler in the region of Nice, Cannes and Monaco to best assist our customers in making the ideal jewel with a high quality jewelry as much in the manufacture as the setting. Our website i-diamants.com is more an online jeweler than an online jewelry store. We specialize in the sale of diamonds and diamond jewelry (engagement rings, wedding rings, earrings, pendants ...), gold or platinum, custom made in France in our workshops in Nice and Paris. Also a jewelry designer, i-diamants offers the De Hantsetters collection, including the Edelweiss ring and the Rose des Sables ring, a mix of white and colored diamonds.
